Breitling has introduced the first major redesign of its Superocean Heritage collection since 2017, unveiling a streamlined, performance-focused evolution of one of its most recognisable sea watches. Known for blending classic 1950s styling with modern engineering, the new models present updated proportions, an all-new manufacture movement, and expanded size options, while staying rooted in the collection’s diving and surf culture legacy.
Originally launched in 1957, the Superocean was created for professional and recreational divers, with the Ref. 1004 (a time-only watch) and Ref. 807 (a chronograph) setting the tone for a more elegant, dress-capable dive watch. Their distinctive spear-and-arrow hands and clean bezels made them stand apart from the utilitarian norm of the time. Breitling revived this design in 2007 with the Superocean Heritage and introduced a second generation in 2017. The newly released models mark the third chapter in the collection’s history.
Breitling CEO Georges Kern said, “This update is all about refinement. Every detail has been perfected – but the spirit stays the same. It’s about style at sea.”

The new Superocean Heritage range includes a 42 mm chronograph featuring the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 and automatic models in 44 mm, 42 mm, and 40 mm powered by the newly introduced B31 movement — the brand’s first three-hand manufacture caliber. A 36 mm version fitted with the Caliber 10 completes the offering. The new design improves symmetry across the dials, introduces subtle date windows at six o’clock, and retains the recognisable Superocean hands for improved legibility.
Bracelet and strap integration has also been upgraded. Both the mesh-metal and mesh-rubber options are slimmer and fit more closely to the case, with seamless folding clasps enhancing comfort and visual flow. The ceramic-inlay bezels are available in black, blue, or green, offering durability and a consistent finish. Some references also incorporate 18k red gold elements sourced responsibly through the Swiss Better Gold Association.
Breitling has expanded the lineup’s size options by introducing 36 mm and 40 mm cases, addressing a broader range of wrist sizes while keeping each model true to the original’s clean and versatile character.

To mark the launch, Breitling has released a limited edition in collaboration with 11-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater. The Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater features a foliage-textured dial inspired by Hawaii’s natural landscape. The transparent caseback reveals the B31 movement and is engraved with “One of 500” and “Kelly Slater Limited Edition.” Buyers can choose between a blue rubber mesh strap or stainless-steel mesh bracelet. The watch is packaged in a floral-print presentation box and includes a note from Slater.
Mr. Slater said, “From as early as I can remember, I dreamt of travelling to and living in Hawaii. “It was this far-off land of amazing waves, perfect weather, and the ultimate surfing lifestyle. After living here, I realized it’s much bigger than that. The people, the community, the nature, all so intertwined. The respect Hawaiians have for their land, people, and culture runs deep. It makes Hawaii even more special than what I dreamt of when I was a kid. And now I call it home. Breitling has been with me for years. This watch reflects everything I love – the ocean, nature, and the easygoing style I’ve always connected with.”
Alongside the new watches, Breitling has introduced a limited-edition eyewear capsule created with Cutler and Gross. Breitling Eyewear by Cutler and Gross features four frame designs inspired by Superocean Heritage details, including luminous lacquer-filled temple tips, riveted hinges, and etched inner cores that mirror the bracelet pattern. The “Script B” logo appears discreetly at the hinge, and lenses are offered in grey, blue, grey-pink, and green tints.
Each frame is handcrafted from metal, cellulose acetate, or a combination of both. Special editions also include ZEISS LightPro Technology lenses and 18k red-gold-plated accents. Each of the four frame styles is limited to 500 pieces.
The sunglasses will be available from June at selected Breitling boutiques and on Breitling.com in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Switzerland, the UK, and the US. In September, they will also launch at Cutler and Gross flagship stores, on their website, and through selected global retailers.
Cutler and Gross’ CEO, Jack Dooley, said, “This collaboration is about blending heritage with modern craftsmanship. The result is a collection that feels timeless and fresh at the same time.”
The complete Superocean Heritage 2025 lineup is available now at Breitling boutiques and online. The range includes models from 36 mm to 44 mm in both automatic and chronograph versions, with a choice of stainless steel or red-gold detailing, ceramic bezels, mesh-metal or rubber straps, and the newly introduced B31 and Caliber 01 movements.
