Swiss manufacturer Bovet has introduced a special edition of its 19Thirty timepiece to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the collection — a milestone that reflects not just the longevity of the line but the Maison’s continued evolution in modern watchmaking.
First launched in June 2015, the 19Thirty was created as a tribute to the era when watchmaking shifted from the pocket to the wrist. While this transition may seem inevitable in hindsight, it was a major turning point for the industry at the time — introducing new functions, greater freedom, and entirely new expectations around how timepieces could be worn and used.
The 19Thirty drew direct inspiration from a 1930s “easel” chronometer in owner Pascal Raffy’s private collection, one of the last pocket watches Bovet made before the wristwatch became dominant. Its design and mechanics reflected that period’s spirit of change, and it quickly became one of Bovet’s most recognizable collections.
Ten years later, the new 19Thirty 10th Anniversary Special Edition brings a different energy. Unlike the original version, which had a five-part dial and traditional finishing, this edition features a sleeker, more modern dial that is minimalist and clean. It was developed through collaborative brainstorming sessions at the Maison, where artisans, with an average age of 35, contributed ideas that balanced Bovet’s classical roots with contemporary preferences.
The timepiece still carries the iconic Fleurier case with the crown and bow positioned at 12 o’clock, but the updated design feels noticeably lighter and more accessible. It is available in three dial options: a blue lacquer, a green “in the dusk” lacquer, and a black lacquer with glitter, described as “queen of trees.”
Inside, the watch is powered by Bovet’s manual-winding caliber 15BM04, developed and finished entirely in-house. The movement includes 179 components and 35 jewels, operating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). It offers a 7-day power reserve from a single barrel. As with all Bovet timepieces, the movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback — a design element the House pioneered in the 1800s.
The 42mm case, crafted in polished stainless steel, measures 9.05mm thick and is topped with a domed sapphire crystal. It is water resistant to 30 meters. Strap options include full-skin alligator or rubber, catering to both traditional and contemporary tastes. Over 95% of the components are produced at Bovet’s Tramelan facility, while final assembly and testing are carried out at the brand’s historic castle in Môtiers.
Mr. Raffy said, “The 19Thirty collection has always been about honoring a pivotal moment in watchmaking history, the transition from pocket to wristwatches. These new timepieces showcase Bovet’s commitment to innovation and adaptability, offering a fresh interpretation of its iconic aesthetics for a new generation of watch enthusiasts. This special edition carries that spirit forward, blending our heritage with the energy and vision of our younger artisans, ensuring Bovet remains at the forefront of horological innovation.”
The 19Thirty 10th Anniversary Special Edition is not just a commemorative release, it’s a practical example of how a heritage-driven brand can move forward without losing its identity. With in-house manufacturing, a strong emphasis on finishing, and a shift toward cleaner, more youthful design, Bovet continues to stay relevant while holding firm to what makes it unique.
