Christian Louboutin collaborates with surfer Otis Carey for a funky collection

Otis Carey’s Gaagal collection brings vibrant ocean-inspired prints to Christian Louboutin’s men’s and women’s shoes and accessories.

Christian Louboutin’s Fall/Winter 2025 Collection is no usual assortment. This collection, even though the usual ocean-inspired, goes beyond the blues and greens that are used to represent the water. This season brings in fresh materials, evolved shapes, and a standout collaboration with painter and pro-surfer Otis Carey. Every piece has been built with a strong focus on detail and material, offering new ideas while staying connected to the brand’s distinctive style.

The collaboration with Otis Carey adds a unique artistic layer to the collection. Mr. Carey, who is known for his ocean-inspired artworks and Indigenous Australian background, has contributed a series of colourful, original prints created exclusively for this partnership. He said, “I wanted to keep in mind the aesthetic of Christian Louboutin but also add something new and fresh that might not have been used before and push boundaries.”

He titled his collection “Gaagal” meaning “ocean” in his native language. For the men’s collection, he has used his special print on a special version of the Louis sneaker, and called it Toile Enduite Gaagal. The shoe’s painted look is sealed with a water-repellent finish, making the design both expressive and functional.

Gaagal Couture has introduced a more complex side to the collaboration. Rhinestones and studs have been applied by hand across silk crepe satin, giving the fabric a reflective, textured feel tied closely to Mr. Carey’s ocean inspiration. For the Moc College Gaagal and Mule College Gaagal, hand-dyed calf leather has been laser-cut and woven into soft, wave-like patterns. The finished layers have been fixed onto chunky soles for contrast.

New shapes have also been introduced this season. Christian Louboutin presents the Bloon boot and Derloon shoe, both designed with rounded toes inspired by clown shoes. The exaggerated silhouette is paired with soft footbeds for comfort and is available in a selection of hairy leathers that wrap slightly over the sides of the sole. These models are meant to stand out through volume and texture rather than through loud colour or detailing.

The Zigissimo, which first appeared in 2017, makes its return with its signature Cuban heel and a strong, rock-influenced shape.

Several formal styles in the collection have been updated to include new finishes and subtle design techniques. The Sarto, available in Derby, Double Monk, and Chelsea forms, has a comfortable fit and thick sole, finished with a hand-done brogue detail. Grave features a traditional wingtip shape with a perforated pattern that adds depth to the design. Seriox Oxfords and Serchelsea boots include a ‘scar’ stitching technique across panels of hand-patinated leather, showing tones of deep brown and burgundy with a sharp, visually strong finish.

The Chambeliss line expands with Lord Champ, a knee-high boot that carries the line’s collar pin and double buckle, along with a tall lacing system featuring 64 hook and eyelets. The boot takes cues from riding styles and adds a dramatic but functional element to the collection.

Chunky city soles are also part of the new offering. The Oxyford College and Oxybootie styles feature thick rubber soles and leather uppers made using luxurious finishes, including an oiled ‘Terra’ leather. The construction highlights a layered welt and strong shape, paired with a single buckle closure on the Oxyford College.

The Astroloubi line of sneakers, one of the brand’s most recognisable series, introduces a new version called the Astroskate. It features oversized lacing, increased volume, and the familiar Louboutin spikes, built for a bold streetwear look. A minimal version of the Louis sneaker is also available this season under the name St Louis, presented as a clean slip-on.

Christian Louboutin’s accessory lines continue to evolve alongside the shoes. The Funky range, first launched in 2017, returns with the new Funky Weekender, designed for travel but made compact enough for cabin use. The Djanis cross-body bag also joins the collection. It features a square, functional shape with sharp details including laser-engraved metallic bars on the leather strap, a lacquered zip puller, and a nod to the iconic red sole, reimagined on the underside of the bag.

For the women’s collection, Mr. Carey focuses on the Miss Z line of shoes. Elegant with high heel comfort, the Miss Z Otis Carey range of mules, pumps and boots steps into new realms of bold designs that are individually screen-printed on cotton canvas in a brushstroke design that mimics the texture of a real painting, with flexibility and durability provided by a water-repellent coating. Gaagal Sphere and Gaagal Strass are two styles from the range that feature manually set crystals, reflecting light in a particularly luxurious finish.

The main Miss Z line expands this season with the deep-cut pointed Miss Z Slimimule that flatters with its mid-heel silhouette, and the range now includes boots, with Miss Botta available in timeless black and bold Bengali pony print. A scintillating energy is introduced with rhinestones in both Merylzip strass and the mermaid inspired ombré Miss Z Degrastrass.

The Loo Boot has a sleeker look and striking over-the knee addition to the line, and the Jane heel makes a bold return in the form of Janitta, a calf sugar knee-high boot. The Cassia line’s unexpected fusion of a pointe shoe with a curved heel has been adapted with fresh textures and prints with the Cassia Nodo 100 pump, Cassia Nodo Alta 100 platform pump, and an all-new knee-high boot, the Cassia Node Botta 100. An equally Parisian sensibility carries through to the Kate Max Laces with sensual laced up lingerie transparency available as a pump, ankle boot and knee-high boot.

The new Bubble line seamlessly blends PVC and leather. A transparent plexi heel amplifies the signature Christian Louboutin red sole, elevating a full range of styles from mules and slingback pumps to statement boots. The Viva Condora showcases its sole with a technically complex ‘plume’ heel, flashing the famous red on a graphic range of open-toed mules.

For stepping into the colder months in style, the College lug sole line takes inspiration from the functionality of men’s shoes. With a triple welt sole and a signature double-buckled strap, this ingeniously updated Antonina College shoes and Cortinetta College boots with an integrated wool sock reflect a certain academic style.

The Christian Louboutin bags for women also have an Otis Carey touch. The Toile Enduite Gaagal is his interpretation of the classic Eloise style. Otis Waves uses laser-cut leather, woven together to obtain a wavy effect inspired by Mr. Carey’s personal love of the ocean.
