This bossa nova number is from Joe Henderson's debut album "Page One" (1963, Blue Note). The recorded version has an introduction of ten bars, which is not included here. The B section may be considered optional and may be skipped, in which case the letter A is played after solos.

Nice job as always, Ville. Allow me to add a few parts that can be used on gigs. I use it on all of my gigs as my closer. I used to play the "Live at the Lighthouse" samba version in cut time, when I was in Joe's sextet:

Whoops, there were a few typos in the earlier chart, which I corrected and added the introduction. Still, I'm not a pianist and those right hand voicings (in Intro) are rather a well thought-out guess, so please come forward with any suggestions. Thanks for the feedback so far!

Thanks a heap for your illustrative charts, Ed!

Joe Henderson has recorded this tune under two names: "Recorda-Me" and "No Me Esqueca". His first version of the tune, on his debut album "Page One" (1963), was played in slower pace (quarter note = ca 176 bpm), while his latter arrangement on "In Pursuit of Blackness" (1971) was played faster in cut time samba feel (half note = 114). In fact, due to rather brisk pace, the tempo marking in the chart should be "Medium-Up Bossa Nova".

I'm not aware if the bossa nova (i.e. jazz samba) is accurate descriptive term here (regarding the "Page One" version). Ahoy all drummers and Latin music experts, please shed some light on this issue.

The harmony is also slightly different between the "Recorda-Me" and "No Me Esqueda". The latter one has added breaks and reharmonized chords (e.g. A-69 is substituted for D13sus and A-7).

Ville,

Your transcriptions in this forum, including this one, are superb. I agree that the "Page One" version is a bossa in 4. I have a pencil transcription I did when it first came out, and it agrees with yours. I hear "No Me Esqueca" in cut time; it's the version that I still play.

Thank you for sharing your fine work.

Best,
Ed
