This is my frist real attempt at writing a tune so I'd love to hear people's thoughts and suggestions. I called it Blue Cheese because it sounds minor bluesy and it's pretty cheesey. The tempo marking is just a suggestion I've played it fast and slow and I dig it both ways, I couldn't make up my mind so you decide.

Leopold goes to a funeral:

Okay, I think it's time to hang it up awhile. You see, I fear that I'm starting to repeat myself.

Most of this music is what I like to call chromatic blues. But I think the time has come to say goodbye to my beloved little systems, my 7#9 chords and my not-so-elegant structures, and to start looking for other approaches.

These songs and all the others that aren't up here represent happy times to me. I wrote them because I had to, for me writing music is like therapy. If I didn't have music I'd be the meanest, most desperate bastard on the planet. This music makes me happy, see, it's my way of channeling all the silly stuff inside, the absurdity all around and the mystery of everything.

But now I've taken all that my happy little chromatic blues systems will give me, so I believe it's time to stop putting songs up here for now, and to try to focus my ears and my mind on something that's still out there but that I haven't yet heard.

If it's there I'll find it. Maybe.

A take on a jazz blues kind of thing, with an 11 bar head and 16 bar blowing section.
The 11 bars are because of the meters.
Haven't you ever been driving at night and you see headlights in your rear-view mirror and you get a little...nervous? Then you realize "that's not a cop." So you can relax, for awhile anyway.
Not saying that this is something I have to worry about all the time, but I'd be lying if I said I've never worried about it.

Maker's Mark. Yeah....with a glass of water on the side. Several of those will keep you at the bar all night, and you don't have to worry about getting drunk.
I came up with the title first. Then I wrote this music today. Seemed like a good fit. Can't wait to show this to my sax player. He's going to hate me. Again.
Ed's not going to be too happy either. Those 7#9 chords. Hell I don't know.
Anyway, it's fun to play on the drums.
The sound is sort of crappy. You need to crank it up!

Well I wrote this today. It's just another one of my weird tunes, but I rather like it.
Notice how the first 7 bars of the piano solo are the piano part from the A section. It works. Also, bar 3 of the concert chart is a direct quote of the first 7 notes of "Autumn Leaves."

Just a jivey little number I'm kicking up here. Sort of a strange solo section: for one thing it's 25 bars long. For another, it's basically the same form as the head, well, basically, sort of, but all in 4/4.

Since I've been working with a quartet I've had to modify my approach to writing for two voices. The obvious model for this setting is Monk. I've been working on crossing parts between the tenor sax and the piano. It gives a sort of up-beat vibe to the proceedings, sort of silly and happy.
It's a bouncy little thing, named for the flock of geese that hangs out in my neighborhood.
The solo section is based on the chords I came up with for the melody. It makes absolutely no sense, really.
My band has been working this song up and it's a lot of fun to play.

I'm fascinated by ballads, or perhaps a better term in my case would be "slow songs." I continue to struggle at composing one that really does it for me.
This one is a very Monkish number. Since the entire form takes rather a long time to play, I decided to split the solo section in half, giving the first half to the piano and the second, at bar 47, to the sax, giving each a 20-bar solo chorus. The last bar of the solo section serves as a lead in back to the A section.
Included are the piano and C melody parts, plus the audio file.
