Presenting a hard-hitting manifesto, a request from Mother Earth – in actor Olivia Colman’s voice – at the beginning of the show, designer Stella McCartney ensured that the message was not lost on the audience. Ms. Colman says strong statements like “Why are you harming me?”, “I still love you. Do you still love me?” and “It’s about f*cking time”.
Projected on multiple screens, the message was followed by a strong rendition of Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. And then came the collection, which is crafted from 90% responsibly sourced materials.
All the materials used in the collection are kind to their wearers. Models wore blazers made from responsibly sourced wool. Volume biker jackets are made in vegan leather with no shirt underneath.
Croc skirts are constructed from UPPEAL™ – an apple-based vegan alternative to animal skins, made in leather tanneries without any harmful or carcinogenic chemicals.
Lead-free crystal constructs and recyclable hammered aluminum sequins form decorative elements on tailoring.
The collection’s accessories are as eco-friendly. The new Falabella bags are painted with Airlite – an environmentally friendly technology that actively purifies the air!
The denim pieces were made from regenerative cotton, a non-destructive agricultural method that, in fact, regenerates the health of Earth’s soils.
Gunning for a classic collection transcending trends, the collection highlighted exaggerated proportions, elevated textures, asymmetric silhouettes and sensual reveals.
The collection featured soft natural tones, accented with bolder shades. Dusty pink, immaculate white, fiery red, sky blue, earthy browns – all were a part of the collection.
The lip motif was the only print in the collection. The collection’s fluid forms, padded shoulders and knitwear were an ode to comfort. Inspired by Linda McCartney’s wardrobe, drape-sleeved dresses and gowns with dramatic trains created strong shapes.
Each piece, featuring a respect for nature while being extremely stylish, shows how fashion can be done.
