Born from a revolutionary idea in the 1970s, this movement sought to blend the timeless power of a mainspring with the precision of electronic technology, creating a watch that surpasses the accuracy of traditional mechanical counterparts. Fast forward two decades and the Caliber 9R has not only evolved but has become a cornerstone of Grand Seiko’s innovation.
This year, as the Caliber 9R series celebrates its 20th anniversary, Grand Seiko introduced two stunning new additions to the Elegance Collection. These watches are a tribute to the breathtaking beauty of Japan’s Hotaka mountain range. This majestic range, cradled in the Shinshu region where Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive was first conceived, offered a spectacular canvas for inspiration.
These new creations are a visual symphony, capturing the delicate blush of the Hotaka mountains at sunrise and the vibrant hues of autumn leaves bathed in the first light of day. These dials, inspired by the serene morning glow and the dynamic transformation of nature, reflect a harmony that only Grand Seiko can achieve.
At just 10.2mm thick, the SBGY035G watch features a 72-hour power reserve and maintains an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month, thanks to the manual-winding Spring Drive Caliber 9R31. Mounted on a red-brown crocodile leather strap, this new model will be offered as a limited edition of 700 pieces, available at Grand Seiko boutiques and select retailers worldwide starting November 2024.
The second Spring Drive model features a copper-pink recessed power-reserve indicator, adding depth and improving legibility while contrasting elegantly with the overall design. The rose gold GS logo and the vibrant red dial capture the stunning transformation of autumn leaves in their full glory.
This limited edition of 1,300 pieces, powered by the reliable Caliber 9R65, the inaugural movement of the 9R series, is already available at Grand Seiko boutiques and select retailers worldwide.
