Capella Hotels and Resorts marks its debut in Taiwan with the unveiling of Capella Taipei, a striking architectural achievement envisioned by renowned designer André Fu. Located along the tree-lined Dunhua North Road, this hotel blends urban energy with serene luxury, capturing Taipei’s evolving cultural landscape.
Mr. Fu’s design philosophy transforms Capella Taipei into a “modern mansion”. The experience begins the moment guests arrive via a cobblestone driveway, stepping into a tranquil courtyard framed by sculpted greenery and bronze doors. The transition from the bustling city to an intimate sanctuary reflects Mr. Fu’s signature approach, balancing movement with stillness.
Inside, a series of salons and lounges lead guests through a carefully curated visual journey. The hotel’s five dining venues tells a distinct tale, blending flavor with heritage. Mizue sees an inspiration by Japanese ryokans, elevating omakase dining through the wabi-sabi philosophy, with Shoji-viewing windows casting a poetic interplay of light and shadow throughout the day.
Rong Ju honors the essence of Cantonese cuisine, where time-honored traditions are reimagined, dim sums emerge from bamboo steamers, and wok-fired dishes infuse the air with rich aromas.
PLUME offers an intimate retreat, where cocktails—rooted in Taipei’s lush landscapes—are crafted with precision. Atelier Plume merges French patisserie artistry with Taiwan’s vibrant seasonal harvests. The Glasshouse invites connoisseurs to indulge in artfully composed cocktails, rare single malts, and vintage champagnes. Another standout is Ember 28.
One of the most striking features of the hotel is the Rotunda, a cylindrical chamber anchored by a dramatic spiral staircase. Crafted from 800 hardwood blocks, the sweeping handrail mirrors the form of a calla lily, while Joel Escalona’s vertical sculpture, Quiet Dynamics, creates a bold contrast.
The 86 rooms and suites continue the theme of artistic refinement. Collaborating with British artisan house De Gournay, Mr. Fu introduces hand-painted silk panels with silver gilt detailing, blending Art Deco influences with tranquil Zen garden motifs.
Marquetry patterns extend across entrance doors, carpets, and tableware, reinforcing a sense of craftsmanship in every corner. Select accommodations offer private balconies or al fresco terraces with outdoor dipping pools, creating an urban retreat within Taipei’s dynamic setting.
The spa at Capella Taipei is a testament to Mr. Fu’s mastery of spatial harmony. Barrel-vaulted ceilings and cross-vaulted treatment rooms create a calming rhythm, echoing the geometric precision of sacred architecture. Guests seeking relaxation can retreat to the pool terrace, where a 38-meter-long white bougainvillea hedge serves as a natural tapestry, framing a serene urban oasis.
To celebrate its opening, Capella Taipei introduces the Unveil & Celebrate package, offering guests a champagne breakfast for two and a TWD 3,000 hotel credit to explore the hotel’s five dining venues, wellness therapies, and curated experiences. Rates start from TWD 20,559 (excluding taxes and fees). Bookings are now open for stays beginning April 1, 2025. This debut in Taiwan will be followed by Capella Kenting, which is slated to open in 2028.
