Indian brand Jaipur Rugs has joined forces with esteemed designer Peter D’Ascoli to present the Gilded Age Collection, an opulent tribute to heritage, artistry, and timeless design. Featuring 32 meticulously crafted rugs across seven distinctive categories, the collection has a unique charm.
Inspired by the Parisian collector Madeleine Castaing and the Hollywood Regency era, the Gilded Age Collection brings together rich artistic legacies. It is heavily influenced by the19th-century Parisian flea markets, where chintz florals, bold paisleys, and neoclassical motifs intertwine seamlessly with modern refinement.
“I have long dreamt of collaborating with Jaipur Rugs, even before becoming friends with the Chaudhary family, whose excellent work merging craft, style, and social enterprise has been an example and beacon of leadership for me and my work in design. I count it a privilege to work with the foremost purveyor of luxury floorcoverings,” Mr. D’Ascoli said.
The Belle Époque, inspired by 16th-century chintz florals, revives large-scale tonal silhouettes set against bold backdrops. Eugénie pays homage to Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. This collection features sculpted, high-definition floral patterns, brought to life through the intricate Gultarash carving technique.
Malmaison, a tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte’s neoclassical retreat, blends Greco-Roman motifs with Napoleonic grandeur, incorporating garlands, Greek patterns, and exotic leopard-skin borders.
On the other hand, Marcellin reflects Madeleine Castaing’s signature style. This collection embraces her bold color palette of fiery reds, sky blues, and lush garden greens, enhanced by intricate paisley motifs and ornamental geometric borders.
Another highlight is Kashmir which is inspired by 18th-century Kashmiri paisley motifs that once captivated European high society. The Ocelot & Leopard takes cues from the wildcat patterns found in fashion and interiors.
Yogesh Chaudhary, Director of Jaipur Rugs, stated, “At Jaipur Rugs, we are committed to preserving traditional craftsmanship while pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. Collaborating with Peter D’Ascoli has allowed us to weave a narrative where global heritage meets contemporary design. Each rug in this collection is not merely a decor piece but an heirloom—a bridge between the past and the future.”
Mr. D’Ascoli, who worked with brands such as Diane von Furstenberg and Schumacher in New York, relocated to New Delhi in 2006, to establish Talianna Studio. Today, the Talianna Studio produces contemporary fashion and home furnishing collections featured in fine boutiques, palaces, hotels, and residences around the world. It also offers bespoke fabrics for interior design, all crafted in a vertically integrated studio where ancient techniques and modern technologies intertwine.
The Gilded Age Collection is now available at Jaipur Rugs’ flagship stores and select global retailers.
